Abstract

Storytelling has long been recognized as a powerful pedagogical tool, particularly in the development of early language skills. In primary education, especially in rural schools, storytelling offers a creative and engaging strategy to enhance students' linguistic abilities. This study aims to examine the role of storytelling in supporting the language development of elementary school children at SDN 1 Kedungurang, Kecamatan Gumelar. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers, and documentation of students' language activities. The findings indicate that storytelling significantly contributes to students’ vocabulary enrichment, speaking fluency, and listening comprehension. Teachers reported increased student participation and enthusiasm when storytelling was integrated into daily lessons. Furthermore, storytelling fostered a more inclusive and imaginative learning environment. This research highlights the effectiveness of storytelling as a language development strategy and suggests its broader application in other elementary schools to support early literacy skills.
